Senior Marine Consultant (EIA and Consenting)

MarineSpace is a specialist marine consultancy using exceptional knowledge, imagination and experience to enable significant and valuable projects to develop successfully, efficiently and responsibly in the complex marine environment. As part of a continued programme of expansion the company is currently seeking to employ a Senior Consultant to join our experienced consenting team.

MarineSpace provides services to a wide range of marine sectors and is leading the way in floating offshore wind, cables and aggregates in particular and we are seeking out the brightest talent who want to contribute in a significant way. The successful candidate will have an enthusiasm to develop and grow with the business and, although not essential, will be able to demonstrate specific experience of project-work in the renewables (offshore wind/tidal energy) and/or cables sectors.

The location of the position will ideally be in one of MarineSpace’s existing offices in Southampton, Pembroke Dock, Norwich or Aberdeen although we are prepared to be flexible for the right candidate. The successful candidate will be required to travel to meetings at the company’s other offices from time to time, and also attend client meetings as required.


Key responsibilities:

  • EIA project management, coordination and delivery;
  • Provision of marine and environmental consenting and planning advice;
  • Management of internal staff resources and external sub-contractors;
  • Client liaison;
  • Consultation with external stakeholders;
  • Marine consent applications preparation and submission
  • Marine consent management and compliance;
  • Support to other marine consent related workstreams (WFD; HRA; MCZ; EPS);
  • Supporting business development such as providing support in writing proposals and attending industry specific conferences and events. 

Individual Requirements:

  • Minimum BSc (preferably MSc) in a relevant technical subject;
  • At least 4 years of professional experience providing support to offshore EIA and consenting projects in the UK;
  • Demonstrable understanding and experience of UK marine policy, legislation, consenting and environmental issues;
  • Good understanding of HRA;
  • Demonstrable experience of working with key UK marine stakeholders and proven track record of stakeholder engagement;
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organisational and time management skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe software;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team as/when required.

Terms of employment will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be required to provide input to a range of projects but with a specific focus on the offshore wind and subsea cables sectors. 

The location of the position will ideally be in one of MarineSpace’s existing offices in Southampton, Pembroke Dock, Norwich or Aberdeen although we are prepared to be flexible for the right candidate. The successful candidate will be required to travel to meetings at the company’s other offices from time to time, and also attend client meetings as required.

  • Assistant project manager and coordination on EIA projects; 
  • Assisting in preparation of reports to a high standard, including environmental desk studies, scoping reports and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA);
  • Marine consent applications preparation and submission;
  • Providing support to senior and principal specialists in writing proposals; and
  • Marine consent management and compliance.

  • Minimum BSc (preferably MSc) in a relevant technical subject;
  • At least 1 year of professional experience providing support to offshore EIA and consenting projects in the UK;
  • Awareness of UK marine policy, legislation, consenting and environmental issues;
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organisational and time management skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe software; and
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team as/when required.

Geotechnical Consultant

MarineSpace provides an integrated geosciences service offering within the core marine planning and environmental consultancy aspects of the business. MarineSpace provides specialist advice and services to clients across a range of sectors and, as part of a continued programme of expansion, the company is currently seeking to employ a Geotechnical Consultant to join our experienced team.

MarineSpace provides services to the marine aggregate, offshore wind, OFTO, wave and tidal, oil and gas, subsea cables, coastal/marine engineering, and ports/harbours sectors. The successful candidate will be required to provide input to a range of projects but with a specific focus on the offshore wind and subsea cables sector.

MarineSpace is a rapidly developing company and is seeking a dynamic and hard-working individual to complement and enhance our geoscience team. The location of the position will, ideally, be in MarineSpace’s Aberdeen office, although the successful candidate will be required to travel to meetings at the company’s other offices from time to time, and also attend client meetings as required. Some flexibility in the base location of candidates would be possible for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assisting in preparation of reports to a high standard, including desk studies, FEED studies, Cable Burial Risk Assessments, and Burial Assessment Studies;
  • Performing and supporting cable and pipeline geotechnical engineering calculations;
  • Providing support to senior and principal specialists in writing CTRs and proposals.

Requirements:

Essential
  • BSc or MSc in a relevant technical subject, preferably civil/geotechnical engineering;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of offshore site investigation techniques, data acquisition and data interpretation;
  • Knowledge and understanding of soil/cable, and soil/structure interaction, with a good grounding in soil and rock mechanics;
  • Knowledge of offshore cable and pipeline installation and protection works;
  • Extensive experience in the use of standard MS Office software;
  • An enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn, as part of a team and under own supervision.
Desirable
  • Experience of GIS packages (preferably ESRI™ ArcGIS or QGIS) to manipulate, interrogate and interpret spatial datasets, including integrating and analysing different types of data from multiple sources;
  • Numerically minded with knowledge of (or interest in learning) coding, 2D or 3D FEA or DEA;
  • Interest in seismic data interpretation and willingness to learn from our in-house specialists.
