Meet The Team – Phil Durrant

This month we are featuring Phil, Managing Director of MarineSpace based in the Norwich Office, who has been with MarineSpace for 5 years.  Read more about Phil and his expertise below.

Area of expertise

I have 30 years’ experience in the marine sector, having initially graduated from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne with a degree in Geology, followed by an MSc in Marine Geology and Geophysics from UCL. I have significant experience in project managing a wide range of services on an international basis, and have overseen data acquisition projects across the globe. With a strong background in geophysics, I have a sound and robust understanding of environmental and geotechnical project requirements, which enable me to provide a comprehensive overview to clients and promote an integrated approach to data handling. Having initially worked offshore for a range of Oil and Gas operators, I have developed my skills to keep pace with the energy transition working on marine renewable projects, including offshore wind and tidal, in both the UK and US.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I have always enjoyed growing and developing companies, and one of the great things about working at MarineSpace has been seeing first-hand how the company has advanced over the last few years. I also really enjoy that no two days are the same. We work across a number of sectors and with a diverse range of clients, so there are always challenges, and opportunities to learn and develop. I have also enjoyed being able to get back to where I started out in the business, engaged in offshore surveys, through supporting clients in developing their survey scopes and assisting with data acquisition and reporting.

What do you look forward to whilst at MarineSpace?

This one is easy, it is working with great people. Seeing them given the opportunities to reach their full potential is always rewarding. Also, it is incredibly satisfying seeing a project we have worked on, as a team, get consent or approval. That’s a great sense of achievement.

Hobbies outside of work

I like to be out in the fresh air as much as possible, whether that is tending to my allotments, or walking our fox red labrador. I also enjoy most sports, particularly rugby, and of course socialising with friends and family at every opportunity.
