Meet the Team – Bev Forrow

This week, we are featuring Accounts Manager, Bev Forrow. Read more about Bev, her areas of expertise, what led her to her current role and what she enjoys about it in the profile below.

Areas of expertise:

I joined MarineSpace with a background in project and staff management, quality assurance and individual/group training delivery. I am social work trained, and having been a Probation Officer and Manager within the National Probation Service for 15 years, in 2010 I made the decision to change direction, taking the role of Project Delivery Manager within the Consultancy Department of EMU Ltd. I joined MarineSpace Ltd in 2015. This path has enabled me to expand my repertoire of skills – I now have a sound understanding, working knowledge, and appreciation of, the Company’s finances, through my day to day activities and contact with the Board of Directors.

What do you enjoy about your job?

Detail, detail, detail! While my colleagues oversee, project manage and deliver the ‘science’, I’m doing exactly the same, but from a financial perspective. My role is central to all that we do, brings with it a high level of responsibility, is fairly autonomous, and allows me to define my work schedule and priorities, taking account of the Company’s various financial reporting deadlines. That ticks a lot of boxes for me. Crucially, my role also brings me into regular contact with all staff, as well as with Clients and Subcontractors, which is also very welcome – it’s not all about the numbers!

What do you look forward to whilst at MarineSpace?

As MarineSpace continues to grow and mature, our financial systems need to follow suit. I am involved in working collaboratively with colleagues to develop these, and look forward to continuing with this work. This provides an opportunity for me to broaden my knowledge base and apply newly acquired skills.

What led you to a career in Systems Management?

I have always felt most comfortable when operating within clear structures: be that when working within the Criminal Justice System; when delivering training; in the adherence to, and application of Quality Assurance measures; or when working to accountancy frameworks. My career, and the path it has taken, has evolved to utilise these strengths. However, I do still have a sense of humour!

Hobbies outside of work:

I like walking, finding new routes in the local countryside, road and off road cycling, yoga, as well as being in my garden where I enjoy observing nature doing its thing (e.g. birds, stag beetles, hedgehogs, bats, badgers, foxes).
